Dear QEHS Parents and Guardians,

It was fantastic to see so many of you at our High School Open House for grade 9s and CTS/Fine Arts Evening this week.  The slides with all of the information about high school planning and our complementary course guide can be found on our website.  The Advance Placement presentation is also available on our website.  We will connect back in January with next steps for high school planning.

Our celebration of learning this week is a powerful reminder of the way QEHS supports students to discover their unique talents and passions.  The quality of the finished products, as well as seeing the process of creating, innovating, and problem solving, is inspiring.  Way to go, Knights!

Next week is our last week before winter break.  Please see important dates for January below as well as other updates.  Stay warm this weekend.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Edmondson-Neily
Principal

Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) Results

In May and June of last year, Grade 6 and Grade 9 students across the province completed Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs). These assessments provide Alberta Education, school administrators, teachers, parents/guardians, students, and the broader community with valuable information about student achievement in relation to provincial standards at the end of Grades 6 and 9.

On Monday December 15, current grade 7 and 10 students who wrote PATs last spring will be provided with a hard copy of their Individual Student Profiles (ISPs) during class and are asked to bring it home for parent/guardian review. ISPs outline a student’s performance on each assessment and compares their achievement to provincial expectations.

High School Play Auditions

This year's high school play will be The Breakfast Club, adapted for the stage by our own Mr. Sword from the 1985 film script. Five students from different social circles are forced to serve a Saturday detention together. Over the course of the day, while dealing with a power-tripping vice-principal, the five teenagers discover they've got way more in common than they could have imagined.

Students interested in auditioning for one of the seven roles should contact Mr. Sword in person or at pssword@cbe.ab.ca to receive info and scripts. Auditions are Tuesday, December 16 after school at the Theatre.

Knights’ Helping Hand Fund- Last Call

The season of giving is upon us, and we wish to highlight two optional opportunities for QEHS to support those in need in our community.  Firstly, our Knight’s Helping Hand Fund, available through the Education Matters website, accepts online donations to support students who need help with basic needs such as clothing and food.  Be sure to scroll down to access the Knights’ Helping Hands fund. Any money donated between now and Monday, December 15 will go to purchasing grocery gift cards for QEHS families in need.  Alternatively, students can drop off a gift card, of any amount, by Monday, December 15 at the main office.  Student Services and the QEHS leadership team will identify families in need and be sure that families receive gift cards before winter break.  Thank you!
